Vampire Overload

Interview With A Vampire
Interview With A Vampire

What is it with vampires?  It seems like we've become obsessed with vampires in the last few years or something.

I mean, I think vampires have always been interesting and written about through time.  How can we forget Dracula, the original and classic book and movie, which spawned many knock-offs including the 1970s cult classic, Blacula and its sequel, Scream, Blacula Scream! Not to mention Anne Rice's unforgettable vampire series, which bore two movies including Interview With A Vampire (all of which are my personal favorites).

Still, in the last four years or so, there has just seemed to be this overload of vampire books, movies and television shows.  And it doesn't seem random, it just seems like everyone wants to jump on the proverbial bandwagon, this time led by a coven of vampires.

We not only have the  HBO series True Blood, the books by Anne Rice and now the Twilight books and film.  There is also a new TV series debuting in the fall and a new film about teenagers who want to become vampires and their journey.  It seems almost like a comedy-drama, however the film's name escapes me.  Let's not mention the books, the Vampire Diaries, the Blue Blood series etc.

And although I am not the biggest horror fan, I've always found the characters of vampires to be the most interesting of the horror genre.  I'm just a little overwhelmed by it is all---and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.
