Blazing Words: East River Blues

The East River haunts me

With its murky waters,

Its expansive bridges

And rugged skyline.

A bluesy jazz song plays

In my ear

As the tram takes me from here to there

Suspended between two islands

Currents and waves below.

Reminds me of days I spent with Enjoy

Down on River Road.

I walk the trail ways

That circle the Island

Named for FDR

Where the sun slices the water

And Manhattan seems

So close but yet so far.

Images of a modern dancer

As she swings and sways

Her arms and feet.

Her moves are tribal

On the cobble stoned street.

Above her the Brooklyn Bridge

Its brick and suspensions seen by day

Bright lights

Seen at night….
